I think it has been several years since we've had a lot of games on the PC that were CPU bound. With that in mind I think it would be pretty foolish to move towards an unconventional architecture which will (likely) break backwards compatibility in order to get additional processing power.

I could be wrong, but I would suggest to Microsoft that they should focus on producing as powerful of a CPU as they can while maintaining backwards compatibility, maintaining a conventional design (for developers), and keeping costs low.
