I don't understand why you're having such a conceptual issue with the idea of the game. If people want to have a story they certainly can, have you seen the commercial with the level on saving a princess? The overall game may not have a story (that remains to be seen as far as the levels given with the game) but each level can have it's own story. I don't see how that's any worse than an overarching story that is almost never touched on at all. Super Mario Brothers was certainly fun don't get me wrong. But emotional and meaningful storytelling it is not.

So you mean to tell me that a game such as LBP can give me the kind of emotional value that Mario and Sonic (1-3) gave me as kid? You've got to be joking. The game is virtually open ended as opposed to Mario or Sonic who had a full story in each installment (and cartoon series). This game will not be the Mario of its time and give a child or even adult the same kind of joy that those influential sidescrollers gave. Back, way back when Sonic and Mario were on top even as simplistic as the storyline for these games were, they captured a players imagination with very little to go on until Super Mario 3 and then world. This is why 1,3, paper mario, world etc stood out. If you wanted more depth than that and action names that stood out back in the day besides those were Ninja gaiden, shinobi, Contra, Kid Icarus, Mega man, Castlevania, Donkey Kong, Super Metroid. Those are platformers that leave a very dear brand on gamers hearts, and their stories and interesting characters made it fun. This game can only be enjoyed at it's height with multiplayer, yet for the life of me I STILL cannot understand the true depth and concept (IE: Reason for being). You cannot build a houshold name out of an open ended game. You might ask why..and i'll give you the answer to that. It's because you cannot relate with a souless character.

The good part about LBP is that it can become any of those platformers you mentioned. It will take a little time after launch, but the fact that it is open ended is not a disadvantage, it is potential to become the best platformer yet...

Also as a side note, people commenting on the sales of LBP remind me of the MGS4 discussions. There were people saying that MGS4 won't sell more than 700k first week, crazy fools....

Don't make bold statements before even looking at the game features...
