Word of mouth travels quickly. This doesn't mean they shouldn't try, of course. They should have a wide variety of games and wide-appealing advertisement.

also, let me first say i agree with the Wii being the new PS2....in fact from a business perspective the Wii has FAR more potential than the PS2. I thought the Wii was going to be god awful. its still not for me, but Nintendo will forever go down in history for this console. It has completely taken on a life of its own and will go down in technological and gaming history.....whether old school gamers or purests like it or not.
Now to piggy back on what you said the reason why the PS3 and the 360 will NEVER NEVER NEVER come close to the Wii, imo, in terms of mass market appeal is because of the first impressions. With launch titles and flagship franchises of Resistance, Gos of War and Halo compared to Wii Sports and Super Mario they are not destined to be in Nintendos league this generation. For me personally im so happy with what MSFT and Sony have done and continue to do for my personal tastes. I only fear that based on nintendos success and the rising costs of the "HD" console games i may be left out. I'm not quite ready to embrace the Wii, but maybe a badass Zelda game, some better online functionality and a slight shift to a more competitive online tracking system the Wii could EASILY branch over to appeal to gamers like me. However the cross over for Sony an dMSFT will be damn near impossible.....not to mention the price. nintendo has done just about everything perfect except churn out some great 3rd party kickass games.....but as i mentioned, Nintendo can EASILY do this in the future whereas Sony and MSFT will continue to struggle to reach back over to the casual audience.
