It will be very hard for Sony and Microsoft to capture a significant portion of new gamers (or casual), since the Wii is the standard accepted system for these people. Word of mouth travels quickly. This doesn't mean they shouldn't try, of course. They should have a wide variety of games and wide-appealing advertisement.

The Wii is the PS2 of this generation, and more than that (it also attracts formerly PC-only gamers quite a lot in my experience).

It is like the PS2 and it isn't.

2-3 years in the PS2 life there were few medium-high budget games developed by third parties that didn't release on the PS2 ( big exception i can think of is RE4). So there are some differences between last gen and this gen...

Aside from Nintendo first parties and some third parties games GC owners last gen didn't get that many games.

So far 360 and PS3 owners can't really complain they aren't getting good games, and this holyday's lineup guarantee it's going to stay this way for at least 6 more months...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
