Doom3, in particular, had redone maps (smaller coridors, simplier everything) and was very minimized to run acceptably on the original Xbox. The original Xbox did have a few GPU advantages over the Wii -- ultimately, the Wii doesn't have the hardware shader technology that the Xbox did and it's basically just a gamecube GPU at a faster clock rate. So some functionality is missing vs the original Xbox. However, it should be capable of doing most things better than the Xbox. In the same vein, yes, almost all 360 and PS3 games *could* be ported to the Wii. However, devs would have to make changes -- textures could be imported at 1/4th or 1/8th their original size, the game engine may have to be simplified, models would have to be simpified, AI and physics may have to be simplified, etc. It would be a daunting task for some games, but it would be a reasonable thing to do if you planned to do it from the beginning of development (you could generate many versions of models, textures, maps etc). |
I'm sure I heard that it had access to more, quicker memory and had double the number of pipelines, I could be wrong though.
I realise that there would have to be many compromises but I honestly wouldn't care if it meant getting games like RE5. In fact, sticking to that game, I don't think it would be an easy choice between which version was superior if the Wii version controlled like RE4.
