I think it does need a mascot because it's the only one out of the big three that doesn't have one. Nintendo has Mario, Microsoft has Master Chief (yes, it's MS's mascot, when the masses think Xbox, they think Halo). I think that Sackboy can be Sony's mascot because its 'cute' enough to have casual gamers to look and be curious about, and it represents an awesome game that will speak to the hardcore (especially with the level creation).
