Also known as Halo-syndrome (nah not really, but it should though). Boy did no. 3 get more hype/hate than it deserved. On-Topic: I'll definitely buy LBP. My only reservation would be the physics engine falling flat on it's face, but it seems unlikely that'll happen. I think the reason why this game gets as much "anti-hype" (though I haven't noticed too much of it myself) is because usually when games become this ambitious they fail at delivering and people who had been flying the flag get kicked in the cahones for their faith. It kind of sucks that games will be pre-judged because of other games burning hopeful players previously, but that's what happens. Also, I think there's a lot of over-estimating LBP going on in OP, because no one really knows how the final product will turn out and how user content will turn out. For instance, I will not spend too much time on LBP if building a nice extravagant level is excessively long to do nor is there a guarantee that people won't gimp the physics system immediately after launch. AND I don't think MS and Nintendo are particularly concerned. Nintendo's already have boomblox (another physics based game) and well if MS were really concerned they'd bring out a similar product. |
Regardless of how the game turns out in the end, Little Big Planet will likely end up getting a lot of "Anti-Hype" after it is released because some people's expectations can simply not be met ...
I'm not saying the game will be bad, but there are countless games (like Black and White) which have used AI or Physics in new ways which (sometimes) pushes how every game after them will be developed, but because the usage is new people don't have managed expectations and they find that the limitless possibility they imagined is far more limited than they thought.
