I'm in exactly the same boat. I had a Wii and i was looking at PS3 vs 360. All of my friends who had PS3s and 360s said that it was nice to have a BD player but games just played and looked better on the 360 for the most part. I jumped in despite knowing that my 360 will almost certainly RROD or have another form of failure within a year or two.
And the 360 just had much better games (it still does) overall, and particularly the best games for me (since I don't like watching my games and have no interest in MGS 4).
MS could very likely hold off Sony until 2010 or later, and if they can do that then they've basically won the generation (compared to Sony). Both MS and Sony are likely to release their next console by late 2011 or 2012 at the latest.
Microsoft has done an awesome job making inroads, despite their own incompetence, because they've gotten such good third party support.
