thats actually a smart move,its better to defend youposition if you know you cant pass the one in front of you

 

thats loser talk ! thats how ppl keep getting big ass leads -_- .....2nd -3rd players hold on to there 3 red shells not willing to shoot . If they have 3 banana there still a 5 percent chance of the shell hitting them on the side .

I have only once been hit by a red shell even when I was "protected".... and that was because I was going around a tight corner in the off roader kart.

Once out of what must be well over 1000 red shells... and that was because I was using a very wide kart which drifts outwards.

In a race you will not hit someone protected unless you are only a few metres behind and off to one side (so the shell fires forward and then tracks sideways) If you are a reasonable distance behind there is no chance.

In fact it's THAT which gives racers like Roland "big ass" leads.. if the people in 2nd are firing shells in vain then they are likely to get hit by something... which only increases the gap... You have to use strategy when firing shells (like if you have 2 red shells... wait until near a new item box then fire them both and get a new item, hopefully a third red shell)
