It's a game that is attempting to innovate with user-created content and breath fresh air into an industry dominated by shovelware and sequels. It also happens to have a very user-friendly interface and appealing character designs, hence its mass-market potential.
Whether or not LBP ends up pushing systems is up to Sony's marketing and user/critical reaction. All this speculation is useless, especially on a title with limitless potential yet restricting factors such as entry price and userbase.
