Here is the easiest way to see this...

There should never be a law in the US to keep people from being stupid. Only to protect you from others. So smoking crack, while stupid, should be legal. Having an abortion before the embryo has rights, should be legal.

My feeling is somewhere around the third trimester, the fetus becomes a life, and thus has all the same rights as the rest of is (I personally pick when they thing can live on it's own as the date it has rights, but I can see where moving that up would make sense.)

THe big problem, with the above statements, is when people do some of these things, they become a burden to the rest of us (we pay to feed and house them). The part of being a free country, is you have the freedom to screw up. That only works if you also have to pay the consequences of your own actions. If you chose to smoke crack, and it leads to you becoming homeless, and dyeing on the street, so be it. You have the freedom to make those choices.

People say what about the kids. Remember when I said we have laws to protect you from others. That also applies to protecting you from your family. I think we should take care of children, at least to the point of feeding, housing, and educating them.
