You're mistaken if you believe our drug laws have anything to do with harming other people.

Alcohol is the most dangerous drug on the planet.

It's so bad we actually made it illegal through an amendment to the Constitution, which is pretty fucking weird for a drug law.

Making it illegal caused so much crime that we repealed it and made it legal again.

Nowadays the cool drug to hate is cigarettes. But we're smart enough this time around to not make them illegal. Now we just tax the fuck out of the addicts, and tell kids it's dumb. But if they're dumb enough to smoke, more power to 'em. Doesn't hurt me in my own house.

Now maybe, just maybe, a lot of our other crime is caused by other drugs being illegal.

I think harming other people is bad. I think drinking is not bad. There is a chance that somebody drinking might lead them to harm somebody else. Do we make it illegal to have the drink or illegal to do the harm? If we make it illegal to have the drink, that infringes on the rights of some guy drinking alone who doesn't hurt anybody.

Besides, gangs get all their money from drugs, and if you make drugs legal, there goes gang money. There goes gang power. There goes gangs. They go back to just beating each other up, and not running drugs and shooting everybody.

Currently psilocybin mushrooms are illegal, but salvia is not. They're both natural hallucinogens that can grow in California. Salvia's legal and you can buy it online or in smokeshops. However, it is 10 times more intense than mushrooms. So why's it legal? Neither are unhealthy or dangerous.

We only call marijuana marijuana (instead of cannabis) because the U.S. government wanted to give it a Spanish name to scare racists away from the Mexicans, and to make it look like it was the Mexican (and black) drug of choice.

Give me a drug law, and I'll give you some racism or weird business monopoly or funky politics behind the law. It's never about health. If it was about health, marijuana (one of the safest drugs) would be legal, and alcohol (one of the deadliest drugs) would be illegal.
