Guys. What you played is a game demo made to promote a game.  Many developers have spent a lot of time on a great demo just to crap out on the rest of a game.  I remember Turok 3 back on the N64.  It was awesome when it first started in the city scene.  But once that first stage was over, the rest of the game sucked.  It all makes sense now, that first stage was a demo meant to promote the game.  Think about it, all they need is the sale, so if a developer can get you interested and get your money, who cares if what is beyond that initial buy is any good?  Most of those high graphic games don't have long legs, so the most of what they make will be in the first few weeks anyway.  Word of mouth isn't near as important.

It's all about the hype.  Taking advantage of fanboys, graphic whores, and techies.
