well with new battery tech they should be working on smaller batteries. Only common sense says make a better battery.

Battery research is both slow and verrrry expensive.  Although I am not discounting that they will 'make a better battery', it is much easier said than done.  Granted, a lot of research is going into them now (especially for plug-in hybrids, etc), so maybe there's been a breakthrough I haven't heard of.

I'm not holding my breath though.

what do they have to research? Forget which university it was but some US university invented very tiny lithium wires that can make a battery three times smaller but last 30 times longer.

Well, they could start by researching a way to maek that battery without it costing 1000 times as much.  You know, so that those of us in the real world can afford it.

Really, I don't see why this site keeps putting clueless fanboys in the position of moderators.  Not saying I'd be any better, since I'm a jerk, but the people that keep getting put into power just aren't up to being unbiased at all, and more often than not don't even have one damn clue what the hell they are talking about.

Hey, guess what ssj12, we can provide all of the electic power we could ever want at no cost whatsoever to the environment if we put satellites into space to collect solar power and beam it down to Earth in the form of microwaves that can be converted to produce elctricity.  If we've got unlimited resources with no environamental costs, why haven't we done it?  OH YEAH, THE TECHNOLOGY IS TOO DAMNED EXPENSIVE.

Really, it doesn't take much of the old brain power to figure things like this out.

guess what, they were developing AFFORDABLE ong lasting batteries. They are using technologies readily available. Whats the worse that it could cost to the customer when mass-produced? The same amount that rechargable batteries did when launched ie about $50. If a rechargeable battery cell can last 40 times longer, I can handle paying $50 for a single cell battery or for laptops about $250 since thats what the best batteries for laptops at the moment costs.

Also your completely wrong about infinite power from solar power. Do you know why? Current solar cells only capture one color of light energy. We currently are developing ones that capture three which is costing billions in R&D. It will take years to develop a solar cell that can take advantage of a full beam of light.]

@sieanr - I understand that but traditionally discoveries from Universities when take to a consumer level product is tested extensively at the University before any company even picks up the product.

So you think that they issued a press release for a technology thats fully developed?
