True communism, or the original ideals of communism, is not bad. Soviet Russia started out that way and everything was okay, but then it turned into the communism that history knows, which is bad. That's the problem, whilst true communism is highly regarded, it never works in practice (google and find out the difference because I can't be bothered explaining it).
As for China, I think mrduckbear you need to travel to China and visit one of the rural areas and come back and tell us whether or not communism is working.
The farming industry in China is on the verge of collapse, because outside of the large, populated, industrial cities, everywhere else is basically a 2nd world country. The farmers get paid so little for their crops that most save to send their children to school in the city for them to start a new life. That's why the average age of a farmer is very high. Problem is, eventually they will die and since their kids have gone on to the business world, the farming industry in china will cave in.
China is not a 1st world country, the major cities are 1st world but every other part of China is in poverty.
A country that cracks down on free speech, heavily censors their media and kicks citizens out of their homes in order to make way for the olympic stadiums is not going great. AND this is all to their own people, let alone the people of other countries.
