I've never really been to a bar yet so I won't judge one till I go in one, but where I live, the nearest bar is about an hour and a half away so the gas isn't worth it, plus the people I chill with don't go either.
I have a few cousins that go though and the ones they go to are more artful and casual, not raunchy like some of the other ones described. They play live (good) music, there's a nice dining area to hang out, and bar for quality drinks. Not all bars are the stereotypical drunkards hangout that many people profess they are.
