Sylpheed didn't sell well, no, but it was a dramatic shift in style from scrolling shooters to 3D space sim and received overwhelmingly mediocre reviews. I don't see how 360 owners can be blamed for not jumping all over it. Square was only the publisher, not the dev, btw. Not sure how you reckon FFXI was a "dismal failure" on the 360. They should have turned some profit off of circa 200k sales + subscription fees, as the port couldn't have been that expensive. I mean, there's no doubt that MS is grandstanding here. I'm sure Square could ignore the 360. But why should they? |
I don't know the actual numbers, but it's really hard to say that FFXI on the 360 was "dismal." As an MMO, SE was finally able to convince Microsoft to use their own servers to pull away from the closed environment established by Live. This allowed SE to employ and opened environment to all platfoms can play together in the FFXI MMO environment. So since SE already had their servers established with PC and PS2 users and FFXI 360 users continue with their monthly payments, I don't see why an assumed low FFXI 360 userbase should be of much concern.
Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.
