Pros to delaying for simultaneous release: 1. Combined effect in advertizing budget... only one campaign required. 2. Code tree synchronization is much easier. 3. Patch process is synchronized.
Except for money hitting the bottom line sooner, I can't really see much benefit to NOT delaying.

And I think they need to keep driving the Final Fantasy hype to keep themselves in the forefront as much as possible. So if FFXIII gets released on the PS3 before the 360, sounds very feasible.
