I admit mario has influenced gaming, but a fat, mustache weaving plumber in dungarees always chasing after a princess which he will never get is not so inspirational.

and one more thing... i said INSPIRING, not INFLUENTIAL.

so lets go at it 1 by 1...

sonic - again, has no story, has no purpose, and has no reason to do what he does. he just runs. sure, he rescues stuff. fine, say that he stands for animal rights. but in a top 10 list of inspiring characters? that's like a joke.

 

Sonic is inspiring because he lets you think you can take down anything, (even if it's about 20x your size) just by trying hard. If you don't think you can do something, just think of Sonic.

And just for the record, sonic has plenty of  reason to do what he does. In the 3D games he has a big fat in-game story, and, even in the 2D games, you just had to read the manuals to get the story.

Sonic Adventure 2 - Stop Eggman from collecting all chaos emeralds, firing up his cannon, and destroying washington DC/Taking over the world

Sonic Heroes - Appears to be stop Eggman at first, but actually is to stop Metal Sonic

Sonic Rush - Stop Eggman Nega from destroying the world to create a new one
