The FF series storyline borrows so much from Japanese cliche's including ones created by previous FF titles that it really places a damper on the overall enjoyment of its delivery. The writing (though perhaps due to translation) is subpar to a degree that I would guarantee that it would not even be considered as a mediocre book or movie if it were released in that format. The series needs much better translation and scripting and more original plot devices.

It's not like American cliches are any better. How is the writing subpar? I am not an expert on writing. FYI, FFXII had a great localization but it was just a disguise for a weaker than usual story. How do you distinquish bad writing and good writing?
