Considering the 80GB for $400 pretty much negates the likelihood of another price cut of any kind I think you're stretching a bit here. Sony can't afford to simply just lose the same money on a price cut this year as they did last year when things looked their worst for the PS3. Now that their sales are acceptable for the PS3's survival, whether maintaining second place or not, there's not the same desperation Sony had last year this time to save the PS3.
And no, 1st party software sales are not making up for the losses, its kind of a well know fact that the whole "software sales make up for hardware losses" doesn't apply terribly well to the HD consoles. It seems the bulk of your logic relies heavily on self assumed facts and dated principles.
