Strange that the number of released PSP games peaked in the year when the PSP really started to slow down.

That just illustrates the time it takes to develop games. Publishers saw the system do well early on, so they started a bunch of games and they all happened to release in 2006. I still think part of the PSP's problem in those days was oversaturation for the limited market. There were just way too many games with very few to no stand out titles. The few that were well above average got drowned out by the shear numbers of trash.

With most of the big publishers pulling out and stopping the flood of generic half-assed titles like Rainbow Six, the PSP will be a haven for interesting and innovative ideas from smaller newer devs. The PSP has a huge install base without big publishers spending large amounts of marketing dollars drowning out the competition. Perfect for the little guy unlike the Wii, PS3, or 360.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
