I loved FFXII myself, a lot more than X in fact.

In fact, I liked pretty much every aspect of the game, from the story to the gameplay, to the characters, and even the music which some people say sucks just because it wasn't composed by Nobuo Uematsu (as if he's the only good video game music coposer out there).

The game felt less linear than X to me. There is more freedom of movement around the map, plus more optional quests to do along the way, such as hunts.

To me, the battle system was actually fun, but it did take me a couple hours to get used to it, especially after it throws gambits into the mix. I never set up my gambits beyond an attack leader's target, and healing ones, but I can see how it wold have been beneficial to set up more for certain fights. It just seemed like to much effort at the time. The lack of random battles and having to load battles was great, and it made for much more seamless gameplay.

Overall, FFXII is probably my 4th or 5th favorite of the series.
