Transformers didn't suck. It was what it was suppose to be. A summer popcorn movie that entertained. Obviously when a movie has a hardcore fanbase you are going to have people that dislike it for not being like the cartoon or something but overall it made tons of money and we probably could not of done a better job. And you know the sequel will make even more money than the first one. It's tricky turning a cartoon about transforming robots into something the mainstream audience can accept and enjoy. Dispite popular oppinion we are not more talented than Michael Bay. At least not when it somes to making summer tentpole movies.

No, Transformers sucked. The only things tolerable in the movie were Shia LeBouf and Optimus Prime's voice. The dialogue was terrible, the action was mediocre (yay, close ups of giant machines fighting... Look, another silver blur!), and it was 100% Michael Bay crapfest.

I never said I could do a better job, I simply said the movie sucked. Just because it's a "popcorn movie" doesn't mean it should be allowed to get away with subpar performances and a dumb story. Movies like TDK and Iron Man prove that you can mix cheesy ideas and blockbuster action and still make a hugely entertaining movie that doesn't insult your intelligence.

I don't buy into the idea that movies are allowed to suck just because of their budget and target audience.

I doubt everyone shares your oppinion on this one judging by how many people saw the movie. Some movies are meant to make you think like say Control Room. Others are meant to shock like Hostel. And some are just meant to entertain and make buckets of money like Transformers. Guess which one the studios like the most. And I don't think subpar performances and dumb story are always the directors fault though some of the time they are. Let's put it this way. Are you really saying that you expected Tranformers to be this super intelligent oppinion piece with Oscar level acting? I bet you that millions of people will once again buy tickets to see Transformers 2 suck so bad again. I guess sucking might not be such a bad thing for the studios if people keep coming back.
