Well, they would've made that much if there was no overhead. But selling a game does incur costs to the person selling.

For starters, you have to make it (both creating the game (developing) and making the carts). You also have to ship the games to the stores selling them and those stores also want a profit.

Now I don't know exactly how large the margins are at the store, but my guess is that it's not unreasonable to take out some 50% of the customer price as overhead.
(For consoles this is different. Usually the stores sell them at 0 profit)

So Nintendo would've made about $52.485.000* minus what it cost them to develop it and market it for the New Super Mario game. Still a lot of money tho ;)

*) This is per my 50% guess so don't take this as gospel truth.
