With the Wii nintendo has seperated the kind of people that will buy there system compared to the kind of people who will by Sonys system.
Its no secret that they are both in the same market but both companies are after different audiances, its like saying
50 Cent competes with Mariah carey or madona, yes both are in th same business but the audiance that 50cent has is not identical to the audiance mariah carey has, almost opposite actaullt, so really they dont really compete but have to still try or people just will not buy the system
