lol, I was reviewing a similar topic on NeoGaf last month and I really wanted to get involved if I was a registered user.
I think that Twin Snakes would be great for those who are new to the series and wouldn't want to play the ten year old original. However, I think the original is the better experience for numerous reasons.
While there is part of me that loves the original because it's a classic, I think that it offers a better experience than Twin Snakes. Twin Snakes tries to implement the graphics and gameplay of MGS2 and I don't think they did the best job of doing it. Part of the problem would have to do with the fact that the environments weren't originally created for these mechanics so the new sneaking abilities in Twin Snakes felt tacked on. Oh, and lets not forget about the broken Ocelot boss fight because of the new first person view.
Graphically, it's a nice improvement, but there would be occasional frame rate problems and some of the characters look a little weird, like Meryl for example.
Sound wise, I'm not that big of a fan on the rerecorded voice acting. I think it was noble of David Hayter to give up part of his paycheck to bring back the cast, but it felt like the characters weren't as interesting compared to the original dialog. I also really liked the accents in the original and I was kind of bummed when they were removed in Twin Snakes and even MGS4. When it comes to the music, I'm a much bigger fan of the music in the original than the style used in Twin Snakes, I think 'The Best is Yet To Come' vocals are good when dramatic moments happen.
When it comes to the cut-scenes, I was really disgusted throughout my time with Twin Snakes. Believe it or not, but the cut-scenes were originally supposed to be close with the original, but Kojima rejected them and demanded for more over the top ones and thus, Twin Snakes ended up having the Matrix action crap that I despise with every cut-scene I watched (the cut-scenes were produced in Japan, seperate from Silicon Knights by the way). Whats worse, some of that extreme over the top direction made it's way into MGS4 and I didn't like it. The cut-scenes in Twin Snakes are probably the biggest thing I dislike about it (except for Snake vs Cyborg Ninja fights... because how is that not cool?) because it makes Snake into near superhero levels.
I know Snake's a highly skilled soldier, but the amount of back flips and other crazy stunts he pulls in Twin Snakes is just unappealing to me. I would highly recommend the original game for it's cut-scenes. Not only that, but there's also the similar pauses in dialog in the cut-scenes that the series is notorious for having.
Lastly, I don't think the Gamecube controller was really up to the task of a Metal Gear Solid game. While that's probably a personal preference to the Playstation controller since that's how I've played ALL the MGS games, but the Z button for the trigger was probably the most frustrating thing ever since you have to keep your finger at the end of it or else you're not pushing the button down correctly.
Twin Snakes Parody: Snake as Superman
Twin Snakes vs Original comparing a couple of cut-scenes.
While 10 years old, the original is still a great game that I still play to this day.
