hum, I have to agree but at the same time I know hundreds of photo engravers and other printing companies working on PC off-set printing included..... about movie maker.... utter crap... about iMovie way better but please still utter crap anyway...but true for a basic software it's great, even though you find some bad ass free stuff online now... I'd still go for a final cut pro or adobe premier though... apple computers choice especially for companies is not justified in most cases, not even grphic and video application... if you really need power you have dedicated workstations anyway.... now i'm surprised apple attract so much hatred... I didn't expect that lol |
I disagree on the bolded part... The high-end Apples are quite competitively priced, all considering... And in a workflow environment like a press shop or video rendering, the ability to dual-boot Windows/OS X is invaluable at times. It also comes in very handy for web design work where multiple browsers and operating systems have to be checked for compatibility.
Plus, many people in those industries are just more comfortable in an OS X environment... I know I am. I prefer the non-dedicated app screen in OS X when working as opposed to Microsoft's "cover the whole screen with an app background approach". It lets me flip through multiple documents and programs very quickly. There are many reasons why I prefer OS X for working. That's just one of them.
And it's not as if I'm not familiar with a Windows environment... I've spent about half my professional life working under it. I also ran IT for a 25-computer network for several years. I know Windows very well, I just don't like it very much (but I do appreciate its hardware flexibility and gaming ability). Funnily enough, despite people bitching and moaning about it, I think Vista is a huge step in the right direction (though they seriously underdelivered what they were promising). Sure, the drivers and whatnot were shit for quite some time but XP was the same way, as was 2K when it released. It will be sorted out (and IMO, anyone who decides to beta test an OS for MS before SP1 is released deserves all they get).
