Post 2000! xD
I've had more trouble with my Wii and PS3 this generation than my Xbox360 (Falcon). Its been knocked around while playing, it sits next to my heater and it still works like a champ. I feel confident that the design is solid and it won't have issues.
My PS3 is tucked away safely in the corner and its broken once and its on its way to breaking again. Both times are out of warranty.
My Wii drive broke out of warranty and I had to put in a refurbished drive. Funny thing though is that when I put it back together I left out like 6 screws! xD
Do you guys know that the PS3 sixaxis is broken? Sony hasn't fully implemented it because one of the components in about 1/5th of every sixaxis controller is dead? Rather than admit it, they just turned it off so they didn't have to pay for new controllers or admit that there is a problem. (I read this somewhere about someone who opened up a bunch of controllers and found many of them had broken sixaxis componentry)
I think this is a very moot issue, if you hate hardware faults badly enough why don't you wait until after the price cut and Jasper revision to pick one up? The 3 year warranty isn't going anyway so you're better off with a Jasper Xbox360 than a PS3. Combining solid reliability with a 3 year warranty is excellent in my book.
Given the legacy costs of offering a 3 year warranty Microsoft has every incentive to make Xbox360s reliable. Look at the I think Neogaf thread, hardly any Falcon Xbox360s have problems and with the new drive and GPU shrink what problems there are will surely be aleviated.
Tease.
