I have given up on cars because the transmission is shot. It is often more expensive to fix the car than it is to just replace it. Of couse I have never payed more than $700 for a car and on average only pay $500. But all of this is extremely off-topic.
I have yet to encounter the RROD but it wouldn't slow me down honestly. It has games I like to play and I can't get them anywhere else mostly. If somehow Culdcept Saga and Lost Odyssey are great games that exist only for the 360. There are also a few multiplatform games that help push me over the edge by not appearing on the Wii (Soul Calibur and Armored Core 4). If I had to pay to get it fixed I might reconsider but I don't so I won't. Why give up something forever because you are without it for a couple weeks?
