I love how people are in this thread questioning John Carmack like they know more about this shit than he does. This man is a legend, in the same boat as Miyamoto. He knows more about this industry, hardware, software, whatever than any of us ever will. He's developing two games for the iPhone. If he says it's almost there with the PS2, i'll believe the man, since he happens to know the damn hardware and we don't. I can't wait to see what Id software is cooking up for for it.

And I love how you assume it requires an equal level of experience to tell someone they are wrong.

It doesn't take 20 yeas of PC development under your belt to realize he's spouting nonsense.

It uses PowerVR's MBX GPU platform (which isn't even their highest end mobile graphics platform) and many modern cell phones and PDA's use the same platform.  The MBX platform doens't have the libraries, the programming technology, the processing power, etc...to step up to the PS2/GC/Xbox.

Besides, 5 hours of 3G talk time means game time will be incredibly limited....espceically if it somehow (by a miracle of magical engineering from a now canceled graphics platform [MBX]) has Xbox level processing.
