| rocketpig said: This is for the people who have become disenfranchised with the industry lately... I have a few questions for you. - What has happened to the industry that makes you find other hobbies to occupy your time? Constant rehash of the same old stuff. Very little true innovation any more. I have trouble finishing games any more unless they are stellar. I find myself getting frustrated or losing interest. Control schemes have become exceptionally complex in many games (see Madden on today's console vs. Madden on the Genesis, for example). I don't want to have to read a 90 page manual to figure out how to play the damn game. - How long has it been going on? Since 2006 when I got a 360. I read all the HD hype. I was very happy with my cube and ps2 but upgraded. It didn't bring more "fun" (although it did bring some games with very impressive graphics) - What are a few of your favorite games? Rock Band (innovative!), Bioshock (great atmosphere),COD4 (exceptional shooter with a lot of variation), Boom Blox (just new period), Wii Sports (innovative control scheme) - What do you want in your "perfect" video game? Innovative controls, story, gameplay length, etc. Atmosphere and story have to be solid. Controls need to be excellent, 15-25 hours to complete the game. I hate games that use "filler" and "puzzle challenges" to artificially extend a game. I also like games that are more linear and less open world. The game must be "pick up and play". If I can't pick it up and start playing right away, I move on. - What other media do you enjoy? TV, film, literature, etc. If you want to mention some of your favorite books, movies, etc. even better. I like science fiction movies that are well made. The original Matrix, for example. I like very well made documentaries such as "Planet Earth". Favorite Writer? Isaac Asimov (Robots of Dawn series of books), Ray Bradbury (Martian Chronicles, F-451), Edgar Allen Poe, Frank Hebert (Dune series), William Gibson (Burning Chrome -- very short story) - How old are you? Over 30 If your interest in videogames is as high as ever, please disregard this thread. I'm not interested in hearing how much you love everything. Thanks. BTW, I'm being prompted to organize another editorial. That's what this is about. Apparently my GTA IV editorial grew new legs and I guess it's time for me to get off my rump and write something new. Since I missed my opportunity to give a beating to MGS4, I'm going for something different. |
