Here in SE Asia the last format was VCD, but no-one had a problem upgrading to DVD. When DVD players eventually got close in price to VCD players stores just stopped stocking them as DVD players (here at least) are BC with VCD. Same will eventually happen with BD players when they're cheap enough. They are BC with DVD afterall. There will come a time when if you want to buy a DVD player you'll be buying a BD player by default. There's no need to buy your old movies all over again if you don't want to, they'll still play fine in a BD player. Same as all my old VCDs still play fine in my DVD player (although not my PS3. Sony, fix that in your next FW update please).

+1 for that.
Eventually, the cost difference between DVD and BD will be negligible. And of course, what format will the Xbox 720 have in it for the disc drive?
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
