and around and around we go. The reality is microsoft need the entertainment division to make a profit in the long term and xbox live gold memberships is one of the ways to achieve that goal. Sony is stupid to not charge for a service that costs a lot to run as live proves you can get millions of people paying.
It doesn't matter for nintendo due to the the profit they make on consoles and the fact that they are already rolling in money.
BTW you don't need a gold membership to play mmo's on live.
