These comments were made at QuakeCon, people... You know, QuakeCon. The convention organized for id, the company Carmack runs.
Shocking that he would say a lot of quotable things at a keynote during a conference dedicated to his company. That's like bitching about Steve Jobs talking too much at MacWorld.
