Resistance 2 will be more hyped and most likely have more critical acclaim. Also remember that the userbase has grown quite a bit since the PS3's launch. I think this hearkens back to the Xbox with Halo 1 and 2. Halo 2 launched when there were a far greater number of shooters on the market, and it had competition from the largest game of the generation (San Andreas). And yet it outsold its prequel by 2 million.
The outcome here will be very similar. Resistance 2 could easily reach 4.5 million lifetime, if not more.
