A BD disc has 50Gb and costs 1-2$ to make. The biggest sd card you can buy at amazon.com has 32Gb and costs 129.99$. 64Gb flash drives go for 350$. |
You make a very valid and important point. Cost is everything.
However Nintendo currently use SD cards for the DS. They must be in mass production for that now. Granted the Ds space on the SD card is very small compared to what we need for HD gaming or films. But in 3 years with more mass producing a 30gb SD card for HD films is not that out of reach. It would save any need for a HDMI cables or power cables clogging up the stand and no loss in picture quality whatsoever as you wouldnt need a player.
I cannot wait to get rid of the disc tech. We are past it now, it's just manufacturing costs that stop it going. But I believe I read that Toshiba are going down that road.
