sc94597: I'm exagerating the controls? The distance you thumb has to stretch is exactly the distance between your fight thumb and the left analog stick on a PS2/PS3 controller.
Imagine playing an action/adventure/platforming game using the left analog stick with your right thumb? Metroid Prime I was unable to play for more than 20 minutes at a time. Terrible control scheme because they wanted to exploit the "innovative" control gimmick which actualy ruins the experience. The PSP nub is way more comfortable and located a mere 1 inch from the edge, not some touch screen located 4" and forces you to stretch your thumbs half way across the unit.
Sonic Rush good? I just explained how he randomly switches between the screens. It takes a good 1.5 seconds for your eyes to find him and refocus and I had friends who felt the same way. I've been playing videogames for the past 18 years with the character always staying in the same screen so why'd they go ahead and create a Sonic that randomly switches screens? Your eyes don't expect him to go. And most of the DS platformers are sidescollers and very few 3D platformers/adventure games like Daxter, Rachet and more 3D adventure games you can transfer from PSN. Mario 64? That's just a N64 port with extra characters that I've played to death at home on my N64; doesn't interest me.
New Super Mario Bros was the only game that was fun and playable because you don't use that ridiculous touch screen, I'm glad they didn't use some scheme where you stroke your stylus up on the screen to jump, stroke it left/right to move in that direction or some other ungodly scheme.
Zelda on DS? Another prime example "Let's just be different and call it innovative and not take into account practicality". Point your stylus where you want Link to go? I'd rather use buttons and a nub than play an action adventure game with a stylus.
Again if you want action/adventure/shooter/platformer go with the PSP. The touch screen if not practical for those types of games. The only fun game that screen was good for was Brain Age.
Ever use an IPod Touch, Samsung PS2 or an LG Venus touch screen? The screen can be slightly unresponsive like most touch screens which isn't that big a of problem really unless you're surrounded by baddies in a fast paced action platformer/shooter game.
