I think your perception of the value of the PS3 may not be the same as the majority of the American consumer. And I'm not saying you are wrong in your perception it's just not the commonly held view. A lot of the things you mentioned as value are not perceived as value by most consumers.

For example not paying for online vs. quality of the experience. which one holds the perceived greater value? Right now the quality of experiene of hold the greater perceived value.

Also Blu-Ray vs DvD. which one has the perceived better value. Right now Dvd is seen as the better value. That will no doubt in time change as all things do.

So you can see how the american consumer believes they are getting better value and price with the 360. In time as perception changes, perhaps american consumers will see greater value in the PS3 and a price to match.
