Ahh, double reply, didnt get my main point across first time.
The Bible was not originally written in English but Judaism and Christianity borrowed many ideas from other religions. The Genesis story is a from Marduk (king of the Bablyonian gods) and his story of creation, Noah's Flood is from the Epic of Gilgamesh (also Bablyonian), and so forth.
Even though the Bible wasn't written with Norse Hel in mind, followers shape their religion, so European Christians developed an image of Hell on their own that was largely influenced by their pagan beliefs.
