I cant really be bothered to enter into a + / - battle but I would say that £30 / year for great online play is not an awful lot, infact its frankly bugger all. £2.50 a month which is around the price of a pint of lager.

The better value comment makes me laugh.

Based on UK prices you could buy:

-360 Pro
- 2 years worth of live
- Bioshock
- Lost Odyssey
- Halo3
- MassEffect
(will dig out links and prices if required!)

OR

- a PS3 without games

Fairly easy better value for money proposition in my opinion. Anyone saying this 10 year lifecycle rubbish needs to realise just how long that is and that any serious console gamer is inevitably going to be buying the xbox3 / playstation4 / wii2 before the 10 year ps3 cycle is up.

That's good and all for the UK, but in America a 360 pro plus 2 years of Live equals a PS3. And once the 20gb model sells out within the next month or so, you'll only be able to get a 360 pro and 1 year of Live for the price of a PS3. Not such a good value here in the single biggest market in the world.

The features of Live are great or so I hear. Cross game chat in particular is the major advantage, but that's the only one I can honestly think of.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
