3D interface, avatars, and XBL Community beg to differ. Sure, I think the avatars are pretty lame but MS is still working hard on improving XBL and the Dashboard.
I don't see Sony catching up to XBL any time soon. After all, MS is a software company and Sony is a hardware company. MS has a distinct advantage when it comes to this realm.

Actually i think they surpassed microsoft. The XMB is far superior to the Dashboard which is why microsoft is making the so called "3d interface" which basically is XMB from a more frontal view.

Personally, I don't care for the XMB. It looks pretty but finding the options I want is more work than it needs to be. I also don't like the text setup unless you keep the background all black. I find myself squinting to read something over a photo background, something that shouldn't be happening when you're sitting 10' from a 50" television set. Both have their flaws but from a pure functionality standpoint, I prefer the Dashboard. We'll see how the new interface works once it's released.
As for the 3D interface in XBL, I think that's simply a solution for the myriad of features added to XBL since 2005 and an attempt to de-clutter the interface. I don't think it has much to do with Sony or XMB.

Uh, everything in the XMB is quite organized and logical. The only reason you would struggle to find what you need is never using it. Friends list, games, videos, music, photos, system options, and accounts are fairly logical headings.
The new dashboard is the XMB except with reversed oreintation (main headings vertical) and larger graphics seperating the choices within the headings.
If you don't like XMB you're not going to like the new Live system...it's the same.

I should clarify:
I have no problem with some ways the XMB is sorted (friends, games, etc). I don't like the menus for the options. The constant scrolling back and forth annoys the shit out of me, especially when changing console settings. That's what I mean by "more work than it needs to be". I know where the stuff is, it just isn't organized the way I like it.
Like I said earlier, it comes down to preference.
