Gaming - Worst game of 08? - View Post

@DMeisterJ

Having been on these forums long enough you should know that there are two kinds of hype regarding games. The first hype is actually about the game in question. The second hype is about the console it plays on. Any time a game is exclusive to a particular console the second hype increases drastically. That doesn't necessarily mean the game in question is unworthy of hype. However the hype can exist when the game is unworthy.

Unbiased media and community members said the same things about the game all in all it looks generic at the best. Nothing was exceptional about the title poor graphics, physics, sound, story, gameplay, and even the level design were nailed by most posters that bothered to watch a couple videos, or had read a preview.

Tell that to the PS3 loyalists however who were high on the title despite any proof of quality. Despite the overwhelming proof that the game was not the Halo killer some had touted the game to be. About a month or two before the launch many of those hyping the game slid away as they saw that the game really was nothing to be excited about.

I suppose you could call it official hype and unofficial hype. There are a few games on the horizon that are probably the same story. Tales of Vesperia has more hype then is merited merely for being exclusive as does Little Big Planet. Both games are technical jewels in their consoles crowns, but I seriously doubt that Tales will have any more success then Eternal Sonata, and I just cannot bring myself to believe that Little Big Planet no matter how good the reviews will be a sales success on the PS3.

Never the less console loyalists will hype exclusive games despite whether they are worthy of merit or their gaming dollar. I would wager to bet half the people that talk about them constantly on these forums are not going to pick up either title.
