Not that this is a good thing, but MS has a LOT of liquid assets to throw against this... probably several times what Sony could afford to invest (this is what happens when you have a monopoly in both desktop operating systems and desktop office apps).
Shoot, Bill Gates could probably buy Sony with his own personal fortune ($100+ b), but he's giving it all away to charity.
