There are quite a few games that didn't meet my expectations, but one stands out above all else: Final Fantasy III for the DS. When I got it I did not even own a console, and so most of my gaming happened on handhelds. I had played Final Fantasy DoS (the 1&2 remake), 4, 5, and 6 on the GBA, and had just gotten FFIII for the DS. Since I had just finished FF6 which was incredible, I was really excited and got a DS as soon as I could with my own money (I was turning into a JRPG fanatic).
Unfortunately, it was terrible. It just did not have anything worth the money or the time I put into the game. The storyline was disgusting, the gameplay was way too shallow to make up for that storyline, and the music though good repeated so many times it was driving me crazy. Its good graphics seemed to be its only positive aspect, and frankly I didn't care at all about graphics since I was mostly a handheld gamer and became immune to that stuff. And besides, it just couldn't make up for the time it stole away from my life.
How I wish I could get those many hours back. I remember at one point near the end of the game actually quitting for about a whole month before gaining the courage to beat the final dungeon. The game just felt like an atrocious waste of time, and I hated it. It was the first game I ever hated, and just for that I will remember it for the rest of my life.
