Honestly, how many successful third party games have we seen on the PSP in 2008? Or even 2007?

Crisis Core, GTA, Monster Hunter, Metal Gear: Portable Ops are the blockbusters. Stuff like Lumines and FF Tactics have done well. Some of those aren't from 2008 or 2007, though.

I think part of the reason why 3rd party stuff hasn't done well has been b/c they've either been releasing crap or the few good titles like Crush have been too expensive or too overshadowed by their own garbage. If Crush were being released this fall at a Patapon-like price of $20, it would've sold in solid numbers. Even though new games have come down from the $50 standard to the $40 standard, I still think it's too high especially for new or obscure IPs. This is part of the "market correction" I wrote about. The only $40 games we'll see are established franchises, while all others will be $30 or below.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
