Infinite Undiscovery uses an engine made by Tri-Ace themselves. It's not that IU looks western, it's just that they used a more detailed art direction than most JRPGs(look at the character models to see what I mean). Capel(main character of IU) looks like a typical JRPG protagonist fo example.

Sorry but it looks western. FFXI definitely looks western, which is why people put MMORPG in its own genre, even if it's made in Japan, as for now, most of the big ones looks western. Interestingly, the only MMORPG that look eastern and could be called JRPG are all korean.
FFXII was borderline. I'll give you that this one looks borderline too. And that's entirely because of the engine. I already explained what devs thinks about the cause and I think the same as them.
Everyone keeps saying IU uses UE3. If you know better, feel free to enlighten me.
Anyway, I'm sure it's not a custom engine, Tri-Ace just doesn't have the funds to make their own engine. The only hope for the not so big japanese studios, is to rally together and make an engine that output eastern values.
For now, there is none. Crystal Tools will soon be the only one. I don't know about Capcom one, it looks too western sometimes. I really don't know though.
The best japanese values filled engine I've seen this gen is the one used in Senjo No Valkyria.
