Why would a blu-ray drive get worn out by playing....blu-ray discs....?
I think the first DVD drives (for example those used in PS2) had problems with long use and the lens position changed. Unreadable disc errors were the most common PS2 problems. But I think much has changed since then and the basic functionality of optical drives is much advanced, so I cannot see this as a big problem with the PS3. (I base this on the fact that there is not much complaining about dying BluRay drives after 18months of existance.)
