I say do nothing. Perhaps prepare for the worst, but as a government, they should be doing that anyways, for every possible threat. Don't go in and attack Iran, though, unless they start threatening other countries.
Also, don't go making pacts with other countries, that's what turned Germany's invasion of Poland into WWII, afterall.
