My opinion: Go for LCD. Also, I strongly recommend a glossy screen like the higher end Samsungs. Anyone who's basing his choice on picture quality will know to do that. Matt screens kill your contrast and your colour, and are only better in a few select situations (such as a light source directly behind the screen). In bright conditions the picture becomes quite indescernable, and in medium-low lighting the picture is still noticaly inferior. (It's also one of the main reasons why people claim plasma is better with it's blacks than LCD. Many people go for the "ooh, no reflections", but try find a plasma with a matte screen). With a glossy screen you just have to take a few considerations on where to place the TV to avoid reflections.
The viewing angles are also perfectly adequate with LCDs these days. And LCDs with 120 HZ refresh rates do superbly in displaying motion.
Plasmas on the other hand have burn-in, phosphor trails, and flicker. LCDs show a continuous image, so they're similar too film in that respect so they do better for movies (which are shot in 24fps anyway).
